English for Academic Purposes

This course builds on students’ ability to listen, speak, read, write, and reflect upon graduate–level Academic English articles found in professional journals; such as abstracts, essays, and annotated bibliographies. Students are taught the structure of the research article with emphasis on understanding and creating the title, introduction, body, conclusion, and bibliography.

During the course, I used practices and strategies based on evidence related to planning, implementation, and management of instruction based on standards. I created my GUMSAP (Grammar, Spelling, Mechanics, Spelling and Action Plan) including objectives, activities, and resources for my near future. I also got familiarized with writing rules according to the American Psychological Association, Sixth Edition. As a final project, I compared two articles using a Block Style in the comparison according to APA format.  I certainly used English for academic purposes.
